The NO Plaques.. They started this summer when I was illustrating some small ceramic wall pieces and wanted to add a word and the only word that kept coming into my head was no. No to overscheduling. No to taking care of everyone but yourself. No to societal beauty standards. No to unkindness. No to misogyny. No to taking away women’s rights to their own bodies. No to toxic masculinity. No to pedophiles. No to racism. No to fascism. No to cutting down forests and poisoning waters. No to kidnapping people and locking them up in horrible prisons for no reason. No to white supremacy. No to billionaires. No to AI. No to data centers. No to kings. So many things to NO these days. Making these became therapeutic for me. I brought the first batch to an art fair and they really resonated with people.
While I was working on a new set of these, the Cornell Case came into general awareness. It then felt right to make 57 of these plaques in response to those 57. Big NO to that too.
They make a great gift for yourself, friend or family, anyone who is feeling the pinch of our current reality.. They are also great reminders to set healthy boundaries for yourself (No is a complete sentence!) and they look great on the wall by adding a little bit of color and defiance.
Ten percent of all NO plaque profits will be donated to RAINN.org , the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence org.
